The National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory is the official air emissions inventory for the UK. The
program is funded by DETR and the inventory is compiled by the
National Environmental Technology Centre at
AEA Technology Environment. Emissions are estimated for significant UK air pollutants based on national
statistics. Most pollutant estimates cover the period 1970 to the latest year (currently 1997). 1x1km
emission maps are compiled using national and regional datasets. These maps include part 'A' process
emissions and major road link data and are provided as a first step to assessing local area emissions.
